Jarod Stevenson (문태종) and the Korean National Basketball Men’s Team are currently playing in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship which is taking place in Wuhan, China from September 15-25, 2011. The FIBA Asia Basketball Championship is a qualifying tournament for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. The winner of the tournament gets an automatic spot in the Olympics. Korea is currently in Group E of the second round and has already defeated Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). Their next opponent is fellow undefeated Iran on September 21st. In the preliminary round, Korea went 3-0 with victories over Malaysia, Lebanon and India. Jarod was selected to replace Eric Sandrin (이승준) on the team after a head coaching change in the summer. Per FIBA rules, the team is only allowed one naturalized (mixed Korean) player. Eric was on the National team roster when it won gold at the FIBA East Asia Championship that took place June 10-15, 2011 in Nanjing, China. The victory ensured Korea’s spot at the current FIBA Asia Championship. Jarod plays professionally in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) for the ET Land Elephants (Incheon). He was the lone selection of the second KBL Ethnic Draft in 2010 and is the older brother of fellow KBL player Greg Stevenson (문태영). Good luck to Jarod and Team Korea in their quest to reach the 2012 Summer Olympics! Links: |
