HalfKorean.com marked 14 years this month (April 2011). We’ve been around since 1997 and, for a website, that is a long time!
It is amazing to see how much has changed over the years and we’ve tried to keep up with the times. The site has never been flashy and will never win any design awards but we do try to focus on content in the form of interviews, features, stories and whatever else there may be to share and celebrate our mixed Korean experience.
So, for those of you that have been around from the beginning when it was called The Half Korean Page and hosted on GeoCities (By the way, does anyone else who was on GeoCities still remember their address? We do, we were in Tokyo/Towers…) all the way to today’s new visitors, we hope to continue to be a positive web presence for all mixed Koreans and whomever else stops by.
As we celebrate our 14 years we decided it would be fun to post a couple screen-shots of our old layouts, one from April 2000 and the other from April 2010. Unfortunately, we no longer have any of the old HTML files of the original site from 1997 (pre-HalfKorean.com domain name) and cannot locate them on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (It doesn’t seem as though GeoCities communities were archived). So, the oldest we could pull up was from April 2000 when we officially became “HalfKorean.com” and were no longer hosted on GeoCities. The second screen-shot is from April 2010 right before we moved the website to the current WordPress-powered layout. This layout was the same from 2002-2010, so it obviously needed the update!
