Ben “Smooth” Henderson retained his WEC Lightweight Championship with a victory over Donald Cerrone on Saturday 4/24/2010 at WEC 48 in Sacramento, California. He left no doubt who the champion is by finishing Cerrone off quickly via submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:57 of round 1. This also got Ben the “Submission of the Night” bonus award. Not sure who his next opponent will be but, with this victory, he has further cemented himself as one of the top lightweight professional MMA fighters in the world. To sort of summarize my personal experience of attending this event, this being the first time I had attended a professional MMA event, I have to say it was pretty awesome. It didn’t hurt that our fellow mixed Korean took care of business! Also, “The Korean Zombie” aka Chan Sung Jung’s fight against Leonard Garcia on the preliminary fight card was arguably the most entertaining and memorable fight from WEC 48. That fight won “Fight of the Night” honors. Unfortunately, the controversial split decision went to Garcia. From my view it sure looked like the “Zombie” had the victory.
