Hines Ward and Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV

Whether you are rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV this Sunday February 6, 2011, you have to be pulling for Hines Ward to have a successful game.

Kidding aside, this will mark his 3rd appearance with the Steelers in the Super Bowl. The previous trips in Super Bowl XL in 2006 and Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 were both victorious. Ward was named the MVP of Super Bowl XL and, as many of you already know, was the catalyst for discussion in Korea regarding the treatment of mixed-race Koreans.

A recent story in KoreAm Journal highlights many of his great career feats and talents on the gridiron.

Here’s hoping that he adds another Super Bowl victory to his already long list of accomplishments. Go Hines Ward!

Steve Inman Uses Facebook To Find Lost Family Member

Last week we stumbled across a link to a Los Angeles Times story, fittingly enough, on Facebook detailing the efforts of Southern California resident Steve Inman and his utilization of the social networking site to find his long lost older sister.

It is an amazing story and we want to congratulate and send our best wishes to the Inmans on their newly reunited family.

Here is an excerpt from the Los Angeles Times:

He was told his father, Steve Sr., was stationed with the Army in Korea when he married his mother, Chum Ku Yi. When she went into labor with Sally, they couldn’t get to the base hospital in time, and the baby was born at a house in the village of Chang-mal. The couple raised her for about eight months in Korea with the help of a nanny, an old woman they knew.

The Inmans were set to move to America, but the U.S. and Korean authorities would not approve documents stating that Steve Sr. was Sally’s father. So they left her with her grandmother while they went back to Steve’s hometown, Salt Lake City, to work out the problem.

Growing up, the younger Steve was told his parents got a call one day from the grandmother, who said Sally’s nanny had come to visit because she missed the little girl and wanted to take her for a few days. The old woman never returned. Sally was gone.

ABC News 20/20 Special Edition – Wrong Turn: The Kati Kim Story

Wrong Turn: The Kati Kim Story is an ABC News documentary that airs on a special edition of 20/20 on Friday, February 11 at 9PM on ABC.

One week before the documentary airs, Kati Kim will make her first-ever televised interview on a two-hour special edition of 20/20 on Friday, February 4 at 9PM on ABC.

For those unfamiliar with the story, the Kim family (James, Kati and their two daughters) set out for their home in San Francisco, California after spending the 2006 Thanksgiving holiday in Seattle, Washington. They ended up taking a wrong turn in Oregon and were stranded in severe weather.

James was a well known personality on TechTV and also an senior editor with CNET.

Here is the official ABC press release:

It was Thanksgiving 2006 when the Kim family from San Francisco vanished without a trace.

James Kim was travelling with his wife Kati and their two young children, four years old and seven months old, when they took a wrong turn in a blizzard and became desperately lost deep in the Oregon wilderness.

For nine days the questions mounted… Where were the Kims? What happened to them? Were they alive?

“Families don’t simply disappear,” one rescuer said.

But the Kims did and their story riveted and shocked the nation. “Wrong Turn” is the definitive account of this harrowing story of love, hope, despair, sacrifice, death and ultimately, survival.

It is, after years of silence, Kati Kim’s first televised detailed account of how an innocent family holiday trip turned into a deadly nightmare. Kim’s heartfelt, never-before-seen interview is an ABC News exclusive that will take viewers through every dramatic twist and turn.

Like a scene from a chilling horror movie, the young family is trapped in isolated woods miles away from any help and surrounded by black bears. As each day passes and their hopes of rescue dim, Kati Kim will resort to breast feeding her two daughters to keep them from dying. They will battle starvation, sub-zero temperatures, frostbite and hypothermia and at one point, desperately set their tires afire in an attempt to signal help. And in their darkest moment they will even contemplate ending their own ordeal by slitting their wrists and laying their bodies in the snow.

How did the Kims survive such an extreme environment? What clues did the family leave the heroic search teams? And what happened when James Kim, in his final attempt to save his family, decided to leave the car and look for help?

“Wrong Turn” was acquired from Firecracker Films. “20/20” is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo. David Sloan is executive producer.

I remember following this story as it broke. It was extremely sad and unfortunate that James Kim was unable to survive the ordeal but it was a miracle that Kati and their two children survived. It’ll be great to hear directly from Kati details regarding the situation that they found themselves in and how they were able to survive.
