HalfKorean.com held a dinner meet, in cooperation with Tia Legoski of the Amerasian Unity Foundation, on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Ohgane Restaurant in Oakland, California. We enjoyed a great meet that featured a brief discussion and was followed by dinner. We were pleased that we had attendees from not only the Bay Area but also from Sacramento, Monterey and even Los Angeles. Being that it is based in the Bay Area, HalfKorean.com hopes to plan future get-togethers in the Bay Area to go along with the annual Los Angeles meet. Here are some pictures from the meet:

Hines Ward Announced as Part of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars Cast
Almost one month removed from the disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV, Hines Ward has been announced as part of the season 12 cast of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. The new season’s 2-hour premiere is set to air live on Monday March 21, 2011. Other contestants include Kirstie Alley, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ralph Macchio, Chris Jericho, Petra Nemcova, Kendra Wilkinson, Mike Catherwood, Chelsea Kane, Romeo and Wendy Williams. This is actually a natural transition for Hines since he has already racked up 13 impressive seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and, although still a key part of his team, I would imagine his playing days will be coming to an end sooner rather than later. I’m sure he’d like to explore his options in the entertainment world before calling it quits on the football field. To be honest, I have never watched Dancing with the Stars but I guess I’ll be following (sort of) to see how Hines does. Wouldn’t it be awesome for him to add the Mirror Ball Trophy right next to his Super Bowl XL MVP Trophy? Go Hines Ward!

BJ Penn vs. Jon Fitch at UFC 127
BJ Penn will be fighting Jon Fitch in the main event match of UFC 127 on February 26, 2011 10PM ET at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. It will be televised live on Pay-Per-View (PPV). This will be the first meeting of the two fighters with the winner becoming the number one contender to the welterweight title (170 lbs). Penn is a former Welterweight Champion and will be making his second welterweight fight since returning to the weight class from the lightweight (155 lbs) division at UFC 123 in November 2010. At UFC 123, he was victorious against Matt Hughes with a knockout at 0:21 of the first round. It is interesting to note that if Penn wins and becomes the number one welterweight contender that it could set up a possible third fight against the current Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre (GSP) if GSP successfully defends his title at UFC 129 in April. Penn and GSP have some history together with the two previous fights won by GSP and most recently at UFC 94 in January 2009.
