Priscilla Ahn Fall 2011 North American Tour

Singer-songwriter Priscilla Ahn will be starting her North American fall tour later this month to support her album, When You Grow Up, which released earlier this year.

Here is the official press release with tour dates (Courtesy of EMI/Blue Note Records):

PRISCILLA AHN KICKS OFF NORTH AMERICAN TOUR THIS FALL

Tour Starts September 27th in Arlington, VA and Closes October 16th in Seattle, WA

(New York, NY – August 29, 2011) – Singer-songwriter Priscilla Ahn kicks off her North American fall tour to support her latest album When You Grow Up, on EMI’s Blue Note Records. The 15-date run begins in Arlington, VA on September 27th at the IOTA Club & Cafe, and will close on October 16th in Seattle, WA at the Triple Door. The coast-to-coast run will also be making stops in Philadelphia, New York, St. Louis, Denver, Salt Lake City and Portland. See full list of tour dates below.

Priscilla Ahn will be on the road in the US for the first time since the May 3rd release of her new album When You Grow Up. The album, which was produced by Ethan Johns (Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Ryan Adams, The Jayhawks), features songwriting collaborations with Sia Furler, Inara George, Eleni Mandell, and Charlie Wadhams, as well as a cover of Benji Hughes’ frolicsome love call “Vibe So Hot.”

Growth emerges as the central theme of When You Grow Up. The songs thread a loose storyline through life’s ups and downs with Ahn’s angelic voice narrating experiences beginning with childhood, progressing through cycles of romance and heartbreak, and concluding with the wise, reflective “Torch Song.” Vanity Fair describes the album as, “a fine folk-pop record full of strong melodies that aren’t afraid to wander off in interesting directions, sung and played with verve and a sense of spontaneity.” and Los Angeles Times raves, “Priscilla Ahn [has] a lilting voice that can swaddle you against the cruel blows of the unwitting world” The album also exhibits Ahn’s continued growth as an artist and a songwriter since her 2008 debut A Good Day.

Marja Vongerichten

We are pleased to present this new HalfKorean.com interview with Marja Vongerichten.

Marja is putting Korean cuisine on the culinary map as host of the new PBS TV series, Kimchi Chronicles. The show features a variety of Korean foods and serves as a vehicle of introducing Korean culture as well. A companion book titled, Kimchi Chronicles: Korean Cooking for an American Kitchen, was released in early August.

We were able to discuss with Marja about her adoption story, Kimchi Chronicles and more when we talked with her in mid-June, just after the show had premiered.
