We recently heard about half Korean author E.C. Myers and his young adult science fiction novel titled Fair Coin. Fair Coin was released last month by publisher PYR, which is the science fiction and fantasy imprint from Prometheus Books, and can be purchased via online retailers such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. One interesting note is that the love interest of the main character happens to be half Korean! Hope you all can check out and support E.C.’s book! Fair Coin description (courtesy Fair Coin Official Site): Sixteen-year-old Ephraim Scott is horrified when he comes home from school and finds his mother unconscious at the kitchen table, clutching a bottle of pills. The reason for her suicide attempt is even more disturbing: she thought she’d identified Ephraim’s body at the hospital that day. Among his dead double’s belongings, Ephraim finds a strange coin—a coin that grants wishes when he flips it. With a flick of his thumb, he can turn his alcoholic mother into a model parent and catch the eye of the girl he’s liked since second grade. But the coin doesn’t always change things for the better. And a bad flip can destroy other people’s lives as easily as it rebuilds his own. The coin could give Ephraim everything he’s ever wanted—if he learns to control its power before his luck runs out. HalfKorean.com Celebrates 15 Years!
HalfKorean.com celebrates 15 years of existence this month! To celebrate, we have some exciting updates regarding our MIX KOR gear. First, we are releasing a new version of our MIX KOR tee shirt! If you are connected on our social networking sites (Facebook / Twitter / Google+), you’ve probably already seen the sneak peek picture of the women’s tee (if not, it is pictured in the right column of this post). After we released the original version of the MIX KOR tee last year, we had many requests for a more slim/fitted shirt (for both men’s and women’s). So, we have selected different brands/styles of tees that are more along the lines of what was requested. Along with the new style/brand of tee, we decided to do some minor tweaking of the MIX KOR logo by adding a “distressed” look to give the tee a classic/vintage feel that we think you all will like. In addition, the new shirts were printed via water-based discharge (as opposed to the plastisol method used on the original tees) this time around to give them a more softer print. The next most requested item was a men’s sleeveless/muscle tee, which we have also made with the same new print. All of the new tees will be available on HalfKorean.com very shortly. For those of you who still want the original MIX KOR tee, there are still some shirts and women’s tanks available (although in limited supply/sizes). Second, we now have stickers! They are 3″ x 3″ in size and we would love for everyone to slap them on whatever they can to represent all around the world (legally, of course… haha)! A lot has changed over the past 15 years (1997-2012) but one thing that will remain is our continued promotion and celebration of our mixed Korean community and heritage! |

You can check out the Ohgane menu to have a general idea of the dinner pricing beforehand. As per our usual agenda, this meeting is for anyone whom is mixed Korean. It doesn’t matter what the percentage is, what the other mix is, how old you are and where you were born/raised. Parents of mixed Koreans are encouraged to attend as well. Other folks (e.g. non-mixed Koreans) are welcome to attend as long as they have a sincere interest in people of mixed Korean descent (or if they are a significant other, etc.).
