Ben “Smooth” Henderson fights tonight against Donald Cerrone for the WEC Lightweight Championship at WEC 48 in Sacramento, California. This fight is a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s fight at WEC 43 which was voted “Fight of the Year” by Sherdog.com that Ben won by decision. This will be Ben’s first title defense as the undisputed Lightweight champion. This also marks WEC’s first event to be shown on PPV. For those that don’t know, WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) is a MMA promotion that is owned by the same company that owns UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). WEC concentrates on the lower weight classes (Bantamweight, Featherweight & Lightweight) while UFC concentrates on all weight classes from Lightweight and above. On a personal note, I’ll be attending the fight since Sacramento is less than 2 hours away from the San Francisco Bay Area (where I reside). I will be sitting in the “nosebleeds” (upper level), but that was pretty much all that was left since I waited until this past week to buy my tickets. Here’s hoping to Ben successfully defends his title tonight! Also, if you haven’t already done so, please check out the HalfKorean.com interview with Ben “Smooth” Henderson from earlier this year. |
